Broadbents 1903 - 2013
110 Years of Fashion!
Our fashion story begins in 1903 with the decision by John Walker Broadbent a drapers apprentice to go it alone and open a drapery shop in Warrington.
Within a few years the founder of the present day business had opened a second shop together with businesses in Wilmslow, Leigh and Macclesfield.
He consolidated the business into a department store in Bridge Street, Warrington, setting up in partnership with his wife, Edith, as Broadbent and Turner, a shop where you could furnish both your house and your wardrobe, and with his sister-in law, a smaller childrenswear shop in Sankey Street, Broadbent & Ainsworth, both names familiar to those with long memories. Before long the name reverted simply to Broadbents.
Under the management of second generation Raymond Broadbent and third generation Richard Broadbent the Company relinquished premises in Bridge Street in order to specialise in fashion and accessories which had increasingly become its main focus.
Broadbents currently has two stores in Knutsford and Stockton Heath village just south of Warrington. As you can see from our archive of advertisement images we have seen many fashions come and go in the last century
Both shops stock some of the most widely sought after brands and each season new ranges are added reflecting the fast moving world of fashion, but with the founder's commitment to quality and service being at the heart of the business.
